Gibson Wagner, 13, of Orange is the “Montage Everyday Hero” for February.

Wagner was a toddler when his father died of lung cancer. To honor his father’s memory and to raise awareness about this common form of cancer, Wagner has raised funds for The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation’s Your Next Step is the Cure 5K walk/run. In 2012, Wagner’s Team, LUNGS FOR 21, earned the top team and individual money-earner positions in the ALCF’s, and in 2013 again took the top individual earner. All totaled, this junior high schooler has collected more than $7,000 toward lung cancer research.

Wagner’s story was featured in the “Everyday Heroes” column running every Monday in the Local section of the Register. For his efforts to foster awareness about lung cancer, he and his mother will receive a two-night stay at the luxury beachfront hotel, Montage Laguna Beach.
