Choice Not Chance-Early Detection

The Comprehensive Early Detection Lung Cancer program provides direct benefits to people who are at high-risk for Lung Cancer and is a long-term commitment to providing world-class care in a community setting.

In 2003, Sequoia Hospital Medical Oncologist, Dr. Fred Marcus and Sequoia Hospital President Glenna Vaskelis embraced the vision presented by Dr. Melissa Lim and Dr. David Jablons of UCSF to make Sequoia Hospital a center for Thoracic Oncology expertise that would provide another progressive, exceptionally high service for the residents of the Sequoia Hospital Community. This unique collaboration affords patients a brand new pathway toward survival – a dream team to fight Lung Cancer. On January 7, 2008, the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation in partnership with Sequoia Hospital and UCSF, funded and launched the Bonnie J. Addario Comprehensive Lung Cancer Program.

This program continues to expand and makes a difference through outstanding, comprehensive, and expert care for all stages of Lung Cancer by providing:

•    State-of-the-Art early detection for Lung Cancer in higher risk individuals

•     Expert diagnostic and pulmonary medical care

•     Comprehensive medical and surgical care to individuals with any stage of Lung Cancer

At BJALCF, our goal is to find Lung Cancer as early as possible.  Currently, x-rays and low-dose CT scanning are the only tools we have.  We support research on work being done in other early detection methods
including biomarkers, blood, saliva and sputum testing, and look forward with great hope for breathalizer instruments that may detect Lung Cancer early and in the near future.

Waiting for late-stage diagnosis is no longer acceptable or tolerable when it comes to Lung Cancer.

Choice Not Chance.
