Become a BJALCF VO-LUNG-TEER
So many of you have come forward and asked, “what can I do?”—I want to volunteer.
Here are a few ways you can join our growing movement:
• Become an Ambassador in the One in a Million Campaign™. If we can raise $20 dollars from a million people, imagine the impact 20 million dollars will have on Lung Cancer research? Set a goal and distribute the One in a Million cards to everyone you know…AND everyone you meet. Add a ONE IN A MILLION jpeg link to your email signature and start spreading the word and sending people to the ONE IN A MILLION website to make easy online donations. Send individual messages to everyone on your Facebook account and in your email address book. Use your Twitter account. Set a goal to raise $20 from 100 of your closest friends. Or set your goals higher!!! Ask people to visit the BJALCF website (link to video) and watch the new video which tells the story and explains the need!!! Don’t let one day go by without recruiting at least one person. 365 x $20 = $7300.00
• Join us in the Give Two Cents Campaign™ and start knocking on every corporate door. It’s time for Pink and Green lungs everywhere. Make a list of ten companies to reach out to. Find out who is in charge of their marketing and send them a Give Two Cents kit (which we will send you electronically and in the mail). Include a personal letter from YOU! Here’s how it works:
Each company can commit to a year, a month, a week or a day, and donate TWO cents for just about anything. Imagine how funding can add up for Lung Cancer research by committing a dollar amount (it doesn’t have to be two cents depending on the product or sale):
• For every hotel room booked
• For every stock trade made in a day, week, month
• For every product or item sold in a day, week, month: soup to nuts, flowers, makeup, clothing, anything edible, furniture, perfume, appliances, tennis shoes, bottles of wine, bottles of anything. You get the idea…your target list is endless.

• Become a LUNCANSWER Phone Friend™ to a patient or a family member or family friend who needs caregiving advice along the way. This program will match LC survivors or family members who have been in the trenches with new patients. Some may need help in seeking second opinions…others may simply need someone to LISTEN. Your help with SIMPLY listening and providing additional compassion, care and understanding could be immeasurable to a newly diagnosed patient and/or their family. ! Email Danielle
• The Honorary Advisory Board began on March 6, 2006. It consists of members who have the courage to say, “Yes. It’s time we do something about Lung Cancer and it’s time we do it now!” Become one of the many voices willing to shout loud enough and make Lung Cancer the national priority it needs to be. To join, simply send us your preferred email, mailing address and phone number. We will add your name to our publications and keep you informed on our progress. As an Honorary Advisory Board member, you can simply lend your name or get involved in other projects of interest. Email Sheila
• Host an event/fundraiser to benefit the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation.
We will send you a box of giveaways, including T-shirts, notepads, buttons, mini-brochures with the Facts About Lung Cancer, and other Lung Cancer Foundation Collateral. Depending on you event we can create a PDF flyer for you.
Be creative. It’s a great chance to educate new and old friends about the need to raise the 15.5% survival rate. Throw a cocktail party, host a hoops contest, have a bake sale, have a movie night and start out by playing the new ALCMI video. For kids, have a good old-fashioned Lemonade stand!
Most innovative idea so far from Angie Schmitt in Seattle: Host a Soup for the Cure Luncheon Fundraiser in your office. We will send you the donation flyers. You make the soup and collect the suggested $5 donation.

• Birthday Wishes on Facebook. Jill Costello’s birthday wish was to End Lung Cancer. Her friends rasied over $4200 for the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation in 2 weeks.
• Reach out to your friends, family and co-workers for Live and Silent auction items. (download auction forms here) Most wanted auction items:
Wine for our Instant Wine Cellars, plane tickets, trips, jewelry, restaurant certificates, anything golf!!!!, etc. We will be hosting online auctions throughout the year.
Please keep them coming.
• If you are a yoga instructor, pick one day and offer classes for a donation to BJALCF.
• Ask your favorite local restaurant to donate a portion of their profits to BJALCF for one week.
• Streets of San Francisco– We’re asking as many volunteers as possible to donate two hours on one day in 2010 to hit the Streets of San Francisco (date to be determined) and collect for Lung Cancer Research. Alms for the Lungs! Do you know of any companies with small, pre-packaged items like mints or Tootsie Rolls or Jelly Belly’s or See’s Candies who would be willing to donate so our volunteers can have giveaways to all donors?
