LUNG TIMES-8.17.09

Dear Friends and Supporters,
I KNOW what you did THIS summer and I don’t know how to thank you.
It’s been a whirlwind of excitement for Lung Cancer and BJALCF. Thanks to you, change is coming.
We began this summer with our third Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute (ALCMI) Summit in concert with the 10th International Lung Cancer Congress in Hawaii, co-chaired by Drs. David Gandara and Roy Herbst. We rolled up our sleeves with the ALCMI Scientific Leadership Council (SLB) and guests. Please note: I simply can’t call them a Scientific Advisory Board because they are not simply advising, they are LEADING revolutionary efforts to extend lives and eradicate Lung Cancer.
Next, you joined us in Oakland, California on June 24th at the first-ever Lung Cancer Awareness Battle of the Bay…all 600 of you. 5th-grader Emma Kuuleilani, winner of the “BJALCF Dear Mr. President Contest” threw the first pitch with me, and President Barack Obama is sure to be enlightened by her plans and suggestions to make many more Lung Cancer survivors in our lifetime. At the same time, we sent a BIG letter and a gazillion letters from you, to Oprah. Your responses and efforts were amazing. Oprah…we await your response. Click Here to read more
Then came IASLC’s 13th Annual World Lung Cancer Conference — 6,000 Lung Cancer specialists converged upon our City by the Bay and were brought here by our co-founder Dr. David Jablons and ALCMI SLB leader Dr. David Gandara, co-chairs of the conference. Here, the ALCMI announcement was made…an unprecedented partnership with Response Genetics and ALCMI to make personalized medicine for Lung Cancer a reality. Click Here to read more
I was an invited speaker at the conference and co-chaired a panel called “How to Succeed in Increasing Awareness for Lung Cancer” with Selma Schimmel and representatives from other Lung Cancer organizations including LCA President & CEO, Laurie Fenton Ambrose.
On Sunday morning, Giorgio Scagliotti , MD and Ronald Natale, MD, joined me and Selma Schimmel in the Group Room for a live broadcast to facilitate a global dialogue about Lung Cancer and in the afternoon BJALCF filled Golden Gate Park with over 500 participants at its first annual Golden Gait 5k Walk/Run. After the run, opera star Zheng Cao, recently diagnosed with Stage IV LC, and pianist Lynden Bair, took the bandshell stage reminding the audience, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” There was not a dry eye in the park. Eighty members of Jill’s Team joined all survivors on stage. Jill Costello, is in her early twenties with Lung Cancer. This is the new face of Lung Cancer with a new resounding voice.
Join us on Saturday, November 21, 2009, for the fourth annual Simply the Best Dinner Gala at the San Francisco Fairmont Hotel to celebrate ALCMI, our accomplishments, and the strides we have all made to increase the survival rate of Lung Cancer. Click Here for tickets and registration.
Because of you, change is coming.
With Love,
Bonnie J. Addario
