YOU MUST READ THIS–Out of the SHADOWS

Posted on May 9, 2010

Breaking News 2010 – The good news is that the 15.5% five-year survival rate has finally shaken off its dust and made an upward move in Women’s Lung Cancer after 40 years to 18.8% (as of 2006).  It means that our scientists and researchers are finding ways to extend lives. The bad news is that Lung Cancer in women is on the rise, especially in never-smoking women and our oncologists are seeing more and more women at much younger ages with Lung Cancer than ever before.

We don’t know why and can no longer use the myth of smoking to blame. We have an epidemic on our hands that needs to take center stage on the global cancer agenda–Lung Cancer is the Number One Cancer Killer.  Read More

Radiation Treatment for Brain Tumors

Understanding the Differences by Sahil Patel

Lung Cancer is typically diagnosed in a late stage, a point at which the cancer has metastasized or spread to a different location in the body.  Typically, one of the first places the cancer tends to spread to is the brain; as a result, it is important to understand the differences between some of the common noninvasive treatment options used to eradicate brain tumors.  These options include the following: whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT), Gamma Knife, and CyberKnife.

WBRT is the most common treatment option and involves radiating the entire brain with relatively low dosages of radiation.  As one of the earlier forms of radiation treatment, WBRT has been a standard for treating brain tumors.  Read More
