Are you ready to quit smoking? Do you also love to text or tweet? This may be the perfect answer for you! The University of Irvine is in the process of planning a study that will launch in about 1 – 3 months to explore whether or not small Twitter support groups can help people quit smoking. As a quick overview of the study, you will be asked to set a quit smoking date. Then, you might be randomly assigned to a Twitter support group, or you might just be given access to a website to help you quit. If you are assigned to a Twitter support group, you will be strongly encouraged to use Twitter to communicate with your fellow group members to provide mutual support for quitting smoking.
For participating in the study, you will be given 8 weeks of free nicotine patches, and you will be asked to complete some on-line study surveys. So if you are a smoker and you are interested in both quitting and participating in this study, please click here for more information: http://tweet2quit.merage.uci.
